Normally, when you look outside your bedroom window, you see people walking by, and a trash bag blowing in the wind. Sorry, maybe you didn't hear me, but I said TRASH BAG. Did you know that it takes 10 to 20 YEARS for that kind of thing to decompose? Littering is something that shouldn't be ignored, trash can get stuck on their bodies, even in their bodies, like plastic jars or empty bags! It can wrap around the animal's neck, causing breathing problems or get stuck in their throats, therefore choking them to death! Over 100,000 estimated animals die because of this, and we need to stop it right now!
Now understand that even though you don't THINK you take part in littering, you might without knowing it. Think of a time where you toss a piece of gum on the ground. A tiny, little Blue Jay could mistake that as a nice juicy worm, and then, BOOM! The Blue Jay is either stuck, or his tiny stomach is filled with something that he won't be able to digest for 2 days! Some animals have realized human's mistake, and have had more sense NOT to bother with litter, but it is not enough. Cigarette butts are regular thing you see on the street, but think: If it can cause humans to have lung cancer and even die, what would happen to an animal? Cigarettes can also cause forest fires, since they are lit on fire to start. You can help save animals by picking up any type of trash that you see on the ground, and asking your friends to do so as well. Just make sure you have the proper tools to carry out with this, such as gloves and a couple bags to put the trash in!
Now, time to talk about habitat loss and global warming. Did you know that 300,000 animals die each year from global warming? How does Global Warming happen, and what is it? Global warming is when Carbon Dioxide and the fossil fuels used to power cars and boats float up and destroy the Ozone Layer, making it hotter all over the world! Polar bears, Penguins, and other polar animals suffer the most as their home, the ice caps and cool waters of the Arctic Circle and the areas surrounding it, melts, becoming nothing but just another ocean. You can save a Polar bear by simply riding a bike instead of using a car, or paddle instead of using a motor on a boat.
Speaking of habitat loss, it's not just Polar animals that suffer, it's animals like deer and fox as well. Humans need space, which is why they expand all over the globe. One thing that humans don't realize is that animals need space too. When humans cut down trees and clear out forests, they are crushing another species homes. Did you know that there is something called the Top 5? They are the most endangered animals in the world recorded in 2015-2016.
5: The Northern Pacific Right Whale
4: The Northern Sportive Lemur
3: The Javan Rhinoceros
2: The Amur Leopard
1: The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker
Kind of sad, isn't it? Okay, A LOT SAD! We shouldn't even have this kind of thing! Foxes live in the forest, but lately people have been seeing them around in their city or backyards. Foxes have been pushed out of their slackening territory even more, and remember, it's NOT JUST FOXES! It's all of the animals, and without wild food like mice and birds, who also lose their habitat, over 85% percent of them die. They need our help.
